Is Monthly SEO Maintenance Important?

There  is a lot of debate to whether monthly seo maintenance is important.

One side of the argument says that if you get a page ranking for a term and you are number one, then you don’t need to keep building links to that page. Whereas on the other side of things we have the seo experts who believe that you need to keep working on those keyphrases and build on the strength that you have created.

Personally I would have to say that I agree with the second option. While a stringent monthly seo maintenance plan is not integral, I believe that we need to be consistently fortifying our search rankings to ensure our positioning for the future.

Also, if we already are ranking number one in Google for a keyword then why not try to dominate that first page with a couple more rankings for that keyword? You can do this by creating and linking (outsource link building) YouTube videos or Squidoo Lenses – and ranking them on the first page also.

Another option that could be implemented into your monthly seo maintenance  is going deeper with long tail keyphrases. If you are ranking well for ‘bottled water’ then why not start keyword research for extensions of that phrase? So you might want to start targeting ‘spring fed bottled water’ or ‘bottled water vs tap water’.

This is expand your piece of the ‘phrase results’ traffic pie and in essence see you capturing your niche.

So a monthly seo maintenance is definitely important to make sure that you are fortifying your current results and taking more ground.
